Patience and Timing
These past few months have been quite the adventure for Clay and I.
Between hopping from one house plan to moving in with my parents, to looking for a job, to finally finding a part time one, to waking up at 5am to carpool to work with my Dad, to having opposite schedules of Clay...you know all that fun stuff.
After two months of looking for an apartment in the Rochester area we had kinda of resigned ourselves to the fact that we probably wouldn't find a place until January or something. We began making plans to move my parent's basement around and make it into our own little apartment until we could find something.
After we had decided to start doing this I called into the apartment complex we had been hoping and praying would work out for us. With a sliver of hope that they might finally have an opening, and would actually answer their phone, I made the call. What do you know, they answered and had a one bedroom apartment that would be available mid November. I told them I'd talk to Clay and get back with them.
A few days later Clay and I stopped by the apartment complex to inquire about the apartment. To our dismay the one bedroom apartment had been taken. We began explaining what we were looking for in an apartment, why we wanted to move to Rochester, the misfortune of our past "renting" experience, and where our jobs were. As we were about to walk out the woman we were talking to mentioned that they did have a two bedroom apartment available mid October for $80 more a month than the one bedroom.
Wary of the possibility that we may be able to have a place, and trying to think through expenses, we decided to go ahead and take a look at the model apartment.
We loved it. The layout was great, the location was amazing, the price may be workable.
After talking about it briefly we decided to apply. During our application process we discovered that we were eligible for their preferred employer program which meant a big discount on our first month's rent and our deposit. Okay God, I see what you're doing here....
We left the leasing office with the hopes that we would hear back shortly (possibly that evening) about whether we were approved for the apartment. One hour later we got a call back saying we were approved with flying colors and would be able to move in on October 11th.
We have an apartment.
It still hasn't quite sunk in.
THEN...as if finally having a place to move to wasn't blessing enough, the next day I had an interview at Rochester College for an Administrative Assistant position in the Religion Department. A position I've been hoping to hold since graduation.
After a short 10 minute conversation, I was offered the job.
With this new job, in addition to my other part time job, plus Clay's job (which has been approved for overtime through the holiday season), we will easily be able to afford this new apartment, plus bills, loan payments, and so on and so forth. God is so good.
Yeah, we had to wait months for this to happen. Yeah, trusting that God had the right timing in mind was especially hard at times. But in the end His plan turned out to be perfect. A new job, a new apartment, extra hours, all in the same week. Just another assurance that He is in control and has a perfect plan for us. "All" we have to do is trust in his timing and let go of worry.... easier said than done, but a lesson I'm slowly learning.
