Into the Holiday Season
This post seems to be a bit late in the game as it has to a bit to do with thanksgiving/being thankful, but I suppose it's never too late to share things you are thankful for. That's a lot of what the holiday season is about any way, right?
It's hard to know where to start because as I reflect on this past year it has been ever so full of blessings and things to be thankful for. But I suppose I'll leave my "year recap" for another post.
This thanksgiving was absolutely wonderful. The only thing that could have made it better was if my sister, Leneigh, and her husband, Anthony, had been able to join us. Clay and I were able to spend thanksgiving with my family. We went to to the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit, which was a ton of fun! Cold. And snowy. But fun! Then we got back to my parent's, took a nice long nap, woke up and helped get food ready for the big feast, the guys watched football, friends and family arrived, and the rest is the usual full bellies, games, and conversation.
Since Clay and I didn't have Thanksgiving plans at our apartment we decided to put our Christmas decorations up early. Usually I fight putting Christmas decorations up and listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, but this year I couldn't help it. I was far too excited to decorate our own place! As hard as I tried to fight it, Clay and his early Christmas cheer won.
It's an exciting time for Clay and I...our first Thanksgiving together has passed, our first apartment is decorated with presents already wrapped and put under our tree, we have made our own plans for Christmas time...it's all very bittersweet. More sweet than bitter to be sure, but still a little bitter as this is the first Christmas I won't be able to see my Mom's side of the family in Indiana. This also means not getting to see my sweet cousin, Estella, and her baby bump! *sniff* However, no matter how sweet or how bitter, we are building memories as we continue on into our first married holiday season and I am so looking forward to it!
I am beyond excited to spend time with Clay's family (my family, ah!) in Ohio and our sweet friends, Cory and Jenn. There's never a dull moment on our trips back to Clay's "homeland."
This past weekend we threw a "Super Suave Christmas Party" at our apartment to kick off the coming Christmas week. Truly just an excuse to get dressed up and hangout with friends, but it was so wonderful to be able to host such a fun event at our own home! And its just the beginning of the Christmas festivities, whether here or at our friends or family's homes.
More holiday time thoughts to come, but I figured I'd just post a snippet of whats been going on...
Happy Holidays, everyone! May you be blessed during this time of friends, family, and memories.
