Rory
A week ago today Clay and I brought home the most adorable 3 month old golden doodle puppy, and this first week with him has been an absolutely wonderful, awful, and lesson learning adventure.
To back up a little...
Clay and I have been talking about one day getting a dog/puppy since before we were engaged. We both grew up around dogs and both love their puppy eyes and tug-o-war play times. So, after we were married we decided to wait until he got a promotion to get a dog. Well, 7 months later Clay got the promotion we'd been hoping and praying for and the puppy hunt began.
We completely lucked out with finding our pup. A very sweet breeder in Flint had such a large litter of golden doodle puppies that after selling the first half of them she dropped the price by half! That and Clay's promotion allowed us to get the kind of dog we really wanted. A non-shedding, hypoallergenic, adorable, red colored golden doodle pup. *squeal*
It took us almost an hour to pick out the one we wanted...there were 8 to choose from! But at last we found the one we would take home. Rory.
Now a lot of times when people think of the name "Rory" they think of Gilmore Girls...but that is not the Rory we named our dog after. Especially seeing as he is a boy...ha!
The namesake for our dog is much nerdier than Gilmore Girls...we picked the name Rory from "Dr.Who." Yep. Dr.Who. In the show Rory is one of the most loyal and sweet companions and it seemed only fitting that our dog should be named after someone with those traits. Cheesy? Absolutely. Fitting? Couldn't be more so.
Meet Rory:
Rory's favorite things are currently: playing in the snow, playing tug-o-war, fetch, and staring at himself in the mirror . And treats. He loves treats.
So, that is my first "bragging parent" type post. I'm sure there will be others...no shame.
We've heard that after a good 3 or 4 months of training golden doodles are pretty much done training for the most part and are wonderful dogs...so here's to getting through the next several months and the light at the end of the potty-training tunnel.

Meet Rory:
Is he not the most adorable thing in the world??? I know I'm biased, but he is stinkin' cute!
Training Rory has definitely been a learning experience. I feel like I'm training for parenthood...
Clay and I trade mornings back and forth with who will take the dog out at 7am, who will clean up his "accident" on the carpet, making sure there isn't anything on the floor we don't want him chewing on, etc... it's a learning experience for us and the dog. We are learning lots and lots of patience.
In a week Rory has truly made a lot of progress though, no matter how discouraging his numerous accidents on the carpet may be. He knows he's supposed to go outside, he knows that when we put him in the kennel for the night it's time to sleep, he doesn't whine (most of the time) when we put him in the kennel before we leave, and he doesn't go potty in his kennel! We're making progress, people!
